I always find it amazing when people dismissively say. “Oh, it’s all in your mind.”  As if that somehow makes it less real or valid.  Of course it’s all in your mind.

Everything we say and do is driven by our mind.  If you are holding onto old emotions that are keeping you back, or causing you pain and distress, it doesn’t mean you are crazy, it just means you need to get rid of the old emotions.  So how do you do that?  Well, hopefully not by popping pills.

Now before you think this is all a bit new age/hippy stuff, let me give you a couple of examples you may be able to relate to.

Think about the golfer who regularly makes five, ten, even fifteen foot putts on the practice green.  He is relaxed, his body is loose and he is in total control of his game.  Then imagine the same golfer attempting to make a three-foot putt to win a championship.  Maybe a few people have gathered to watch.  Suddenly he begins to feel the pressure, his palms maybe start to sweat.  His breathing speeds up a bit, his shoulders tense up.  The little voice inside his head is beginning to remind him that there is a good chance he will miss the shot.  Suddenly the shot is not so easy and he misses.  Don’t worry though; it’s all in his mind.

Or maybe you’re getting ready for the big interview for the dream job.  You’ve practiced with friends, so you are pretty comfortable, but then you arrive and you are asked to have a seat and wait to be called in.  Now you begin to feel a knot forming in your stomach.  You’re not aware of it, but you are beginning to tense up a little.  Your palms start to sweat and maybe you are starting to perspire freely.  That little voice starts reminding you of all the things that can go wrong.  You are called into the room and your mind suddenly goes blank as nerves kick in.  Don’t worry though; it’s all in your mind.

Now think about when you are feeling under stress.  You start to tense up, maybe you crease your brow.  Your heart beats a little faster.  Blood is sent to the muscles to ensure that you are able to get yourself out of the situation – the ‘flight or flight’ response.  Now that’s great if you find yourself in a dangerous situation where you need to respond. 

We’ve all hear stories of people doing extraordinary things, mothers lifting cars when there child is in danger etc.  I’m not sure if these stories are true, but I certainly believe they are possible.  Problems start to arise though when these feelings are there day after day.  Stress is a real killer.  But don’t worry; it’s all in the mind.  By the way, using Meditation techniques can be a very powerful way of counteracting the negative effects of stress.

Beginning the see the linkages?  Maybe holistic is staring to make sense.  But what does this mean for holistic health and well being?

Well, it means looking at the whole person.  So if you have a stiff neck, then rather than think about treating the neck, you should maybe think about why it’s stiff. 

The human brain is more powerful than any computer, but we have never had any instructions in how to use it.  There are actually two parts to your brain, your conscious and subconscious mind.  Obviously you can control what’s going on in your conscious mind, but how about your subconscious?  Too many people fail because their subconscious mind is actually working against them.  The frustrating part is they don't even know it.  If you are going to make any real change in your life, you really need to make the changes there.

Through the pages of this site, we’ll explore these and other aspects of holistic health and wellbeing, develop the ideas a bit further and tell you about some products which will help you to better understand what’s going on in your mind and body; what’s holding you back; and, most importantly, how to make the changes to help you break through the barriers.
